Oleshky on brink of humanitarian disaster: sewerage doesn’t work, no drinking water, electricity supply
"We understand that there is a huge number of victims there [in flooded and occupied settlements of Kherson region]. There is a terrible stench in Oleshky now – the sewerage does not work, there is no electricity and drinking water almost everywhere. The town is on the brink of a humanitarian crisis. And we understand that killed people remain under the rubble of their houses," Oleksandr Prokudin, Head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration, said during the United News nationwide telethon, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
He noted that only 11 residents of the town were identified officially and the cause of their death was determined.
"This number is greatly underestimated because Russia is trying to hide the fact of mass deaths of people. A quarantine was introduced there: the bodies of the dead are taken away, and doctors are not allowed to examine them to establish the fact and cause of death," Prokudin said.
According to him, the situation in the occupied Hola Prystan community is also very difficult.
"Many streets are still flooded, people cannot reach their homes. There is also no electricity and water," Prokudin noted.
As reported, rescue operations and evacuation of people from flood areas following the Kakhovka HPP dam explosion committed by Russian troops on the night of June 6 are ongoing in Kherson region.
Ukraine was evacuating people from the left bank of Kherson region in a regime of extreme silence.
According to preliminary data, hundreds of residents of the flooded Oleshky died because the Russians refused to evacuate those who did not have a Russian passport.
