Kazakh opposition journalist Sadykov dies in Kyiv after assassination attempt
His wife, Natalya Sadykova, announced this on Facebook, Ukrinform reports.
"Aidos Sadikov left us today at 03:00 Kyiv time. My dear husband, the father of our three children, a great son of the Kazakh people. Aidos gave his life for Kazakhstan, he accepted a martyr's death at the hands of killers. Aidos fought for life in intensive care for 13 days, but no miracle happened. His death is on Tokayev's conscience," his wife said.
On June 18, in the Shevchenkivskyi district of Kyiv, an unidentified gunman ran up to the car where Sadykov and his wife were. The man shot the journalist and ran away.
Two people are suspects in the case of an assassination attempt on the journalist. It was established that both suspects had fled Ukraine.
Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said that his country was ready to join the investigation into the attack on Sadykov.
Later, the Prosecutor General's Office of Kazakhstan announced the detention of one of the two suspects, Altai Zhakanbayev. It was claimed that the man had surrendered to local law enforcers.
After the assassination attempt, Sadykov was in intensive care in a deep coma.
