Massive fish deaths recorded in Zhytomyr
According to Ukrinform, this was reported by the State Ecological Inspectorate of the Polissia District.
"On July 4, representatives of the Zhytomyr Fishery Patrol contacted the Polissia District SEI with information about the mass death of aquatic bioresources in the Kroshenka River (near the Shvyridovskyi Pond in Zhytomyr), which was received from a citizen on the hotline. Inspection specialists went to the site of the alleged violation of environmental legislation, together with representatives of the fisheries patrol, conducted a survey of the reservoir, which confirmed the fact of mass death of aquatic bioresources," the statement said.
In addition, experts recorded an unnatural color of the water in the river and an unpleasant odor from it.
It is noted that the dissolved oxygen content was also measured at the site. It was recorded at 1.1 mg/dm3, which is more than three times lower than the norm (the norm is ≥4.0 mg/dm3).
An investigative team was called to the scene to determine the causes of the fish kill. The inspectorate is calculating the damage caused by the death of biological resources.
As reported, environmentalists in Rivne recorded a massive fish kill in the Ustia River.
