Russian fake: Bank cards blocked in Ukraine for failure to appear at military recruitment center

Propagandists faked a screenshot in an attempt to discredit the Ukrainian authorities

Pro-Kremlin Telegram channels have spread information that Ukraine’s Oschadbank has allegedly started blocking clients' cards for a failure to appear at territorial military recruitment centers. In support of this, they provided a screenshot of a message supposedly sent to one of the clients. It says that "the client's card is blocked" and that more information can be found at the territorial military recruitment center where the client is registered.

This is a fake. First, when creating it, the Russians made a lexical error. In Ukrainian, the phrase “bank card’ is “bankivska kartka” not "bankivska karta".

Secondly, there are currently no regulations in Ukraine that would allow blocking bank cards.

Leonid Zyabrev, Head of PR and Media at Oschadbank, also told Ukrinform that the screenshot spread by Russian resources is a fake.

In such a way, the Russian Federation is trying to shape public opinion about lawlessness in Ukraine in order to discredit the government, which could deepen public distrust of it. Such fakes are also aimed at portraying our country in a negative light to foreign partners. Such campaigns are often carried out on the eve of partners' decisions on the transfer of aid and weapons to Ukraine.

Earlier, Ukrinform explained how propaganda tried to discredit Ukraine's central bank chief Andriy Pyshnyi through "positive" fakes.
