Russian propaganda passes off railway accident in Kazakhstan as ‘pro-Russian partisans’ actions in Ukraine

Pro-Kremlin media outlets, z-Telegram channels and Russian bots on the social media platform X, are spreading photos of a train that has derailed. The propagandists claim that the photo was taken in the Odesa region and that the derailment was allegedly caused by "pro-Russian Ukrainian partisans."

This is a fake. This train derailed in the Zhambyl region of Kazakhstan. The footage of this accident was first published on May 29, 2015 on the Kazakh website Tengrinews.kz. This photo has nothing to do with Ukraine.

This is not the first instance of Russian propaganda spreading fakes about allegedly pro-Russian partisans in Ukraine. Russian propaganda has attempted to pass off a train explosion in the Bryansk region as a Ukrainian military cargo.

Earlier, Russian propaganda created a fake about military summonses in utility bills.
