Russian propaganda spreading fake about mines on Ukrainian-Moldovan border

A video allegedly recorded on the Ukrainian-Moldovan border has emerged on YouTube. The video shows a mine that Ukrainian security forces allegedly planted on a field. A voice-over claims that in this way the Ukrainian authorities are trying to stop men who intend to illegally cross into Moldova.

This is a fake. The channel on which the video appeared specializes in spreading manipulation, fakes and disinformation to promote anti-Ukrainian narratives.

Propagandists used an old video, overlaid with a different audio track, to create a fake about mines on the Ukrainian-Moldovan border.

The original video was posted on the YouTube channel of the Colombian newspaper Gs Noticias a year ago. It said humanitarian demining was underway in 48 villages in the municipality of Puerto Libertador in Colombia to prevent accidents caused by explosive devices.

Similar fakes from Russian propaganda are aimed at discrediting the Ukrainian security and defense forces. They aim to sow public distrust of law enforcement officers and create an image for Ukraine of a state in which an alleged offense is punishable by murder.

Last month Ukrinform analyzed fakes about the alleged mining of the banks of the Tisza River and the shooting of men trying to cross the border illegally.
