Communist Party preparing referendum on Ukraine's accession to Customs Union
KYIV, February 13 /UKRINFORM/. The Communist Party of Ukraine is launching a campaign on preparations for a referendum on Ukraine's accession to the Customs Union of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan.
The communists hope to complete all preparatory procedures in July 2013 so that President Viktor Yanukovych could schedule the voting day for early September 2013, Kommersant-Ukraine wrote on Wednesday.
"We will start collecting signatures in March 2013," Communist Party MP Oleksandr Holub said.
The Communist Party is planning to submit only one question for public discussion - whether Ukrainian citizens support the country's accession to the Customs Union.
"As for the second question - the European Union, a decision has to be made by the president. If he finds it necessary to raise the issue of EU integration before citizens, let it be so. It's important for us that citizens determine the vector of Ukraine's movement and speak about the prospect of membership of the Customs Union," Communist Party leader Petro Symonenko said.
