Popov wants to meet with leaders of parliamentary opposition
KYIV, July 16 /UKRINFORM/. Head of Kyiv City State Administration Oleksandr Popov is initiating a meeting with the leaders of the parliamentary opposition on the issue of holding an extraordinary session of Kyiv City Council.
"I want to discuss this issue [the holding of an extraordinary session] with the leaders of parliamentary opposition groups that blocked the work of the last meeting of Kyiv City Council. This will most likely happen next week," Popov told reporters on Tuesday.
He said that he had already consulted on this matter with Kyiv City Council Secretary Halyna Hereha, as well as with city deputies. "I want to explain to opposition leaders that they, by pursuing their political interests, are impeding the normal functioning of the city," he said.
The decisions to be taken at a session of Kyiv City Council are required for the residents of the capital, he said. "Public sector employees, employees of utility companies and others are waiting for them. Opposition leaders probably don't understand that, and I want to explain this to them," Popov said.
It was reported earlier that opposition MPs blocked the last plenary session of Kyiv City Council on July 11.
