U.S. may provide military aid to Ukraine
KYIV, March 3 /Ukrinform/. The U.S. government may provide military assistance to Ukraine as one of the answers to Russian invasion in Crimea.
U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said this in an interview with the ABC television channel, the press service of the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine reported.
"It may well come that we would have to engage in that kind of activity. Absolutely. I think all options are on the table. There's no question but that Russia needs to understand this is serious," Kerry said.
In addition, he confirmed the readiness of the United States to impose sanctions on Russia and support Ukraine, including economically. "We would call on Congress immediately to the degree that they [Congressmen] are prepared to be helpful, that they immediately lay down with us an economic package in order to assist Ukraine," Kerry said.
However, he noted that there was an alternative to Russian invasion. "We call on Russia to engage with the Government of Ukraine. We're prepared to work very closely with Russia in order to address whatever legitimate concerns may exist," Kerry said.
