Europe can defend Ukraine deploying weaponry near borders - Bildt

KYIV, September 21 /Ukrinform/. The weaponry should not be necessarily brought into the territory of Ukraine. It will be enough to deploy defensive equipment in the neighboring European countries, Poland, Bulgaria or Romania, and to state it will be delivered to Ukraine within six hours after a possible attack. Ex-Foreign Minister of Sweden Carl Bildt said this in an interview with the Yevropeiska Pravda (European Truth) Ukrainian news website.

"Personally I like the initiative of Radoslaw Sikorski on deployment of a significant number of the anti-tank weapons in Poland, Bulgaria or Romania to train the Ukrainian military and state clearly that these weapons are specifically designed for Ukraine, but will be granted only in case of need. It will be delivered to Ukraine within six hours if there is a further attack," the politician said.

According to Bildt, this approach can become a compromise in the political dilemma on providing weapons to Ukraine, as the debates on arms supplies are ongoing in many EU countries, while their outcome is unknown.

Bildt added that Ukraine also needed financial support.

“The EU countries, as well as the US, should find more money for Ukraine," the former Swedish Foreign Minister said.
