Warsaw indignant at burning of Polish flag in Kyiv

"In connection with the April 2 manifestation in front of the Polish Embassy in Kyiv, during which the Polish flag was burned, Ukraine's deputy ambassador to Poland was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland and handed a note of protest," reads a statement by the ministry published on the official website of the Polish Embassy in Ukraine.

The Polish Foreign Ministry expressed its indignation at the demonstrative behavior of the protesters and the absence of a proper reaction from Ukrainian law enforcers guarding the building. A representative of the Ukrainian embassy said that the Ukrainian authorities had condemned this disgraceful act and informed about the measures taken by the competent services, which should facilitate the rapid establishment and proper punishment of those who are to blame for this act.

The Polish Foreign Ministry expressed concern that this was not the first anti-Polish incident in Ukraine over the past few weeks.

The Polish Embassy in Kyiv told an Ukrinform correspondent that on Monday, April 2, at about 14.00, several people burned the Polish flag near the diplomatic mission and then fled from the scene.
