Poroshenko: Ukraine to file claim against Russia at UN International Court
President Petro Poroshenko stated this during the talk show Svoboda Slova on ICTV Channel, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
“I gave instructions to the Minister of Foreign Affairs to ensure appropriate consular assistance, there were appeals to the ECHR and a claim is being developed to the United Nations International Court of Justice regarding the responsibility of the Russian Federation for aggression against our state,” Poroshenko said, when commenting on the seizure of the Ukrainian sailors by Russia in the Sea of Azov.
The President stressed that, according to the UN resolution, it was the aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine that took place in the Sea of Azov. He also stressed that the Ukrainian sailors illegally captured by Russians are now prisoners of war.
At the same time, Poroshenko assured that the authorities do everything they can to save the Ukrainian sailors.
As reported, on November 25, Russian border ships committed the acts of aggression against three Ukrainian ships heading from the port of Odesa to the port of Mariupol. The Russian special forces fired and seized three Ukrainian ships in the Kerch Strait. There were 24 sailors aboard.
On November 26, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted the law approving the presidential decree on the introduction of martial law in ten regions for 30 days in connection with the Russian aggression.
