"I had a phone conversation with Canada's Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland. We discussed joint actions aimed to support Ukraine and prepare for an upcoming conference in Toronto [the Ukraine Reform Conference]. I also expressed Lithuania's solidarity demanding to release Canadian nationals held by China," he wrote.
In an interview with Baltic media outlets, Linkevicius said that Freeland planned to travel to Ukraine with the heads of diplomatic missions of several countries, but the country's political agenda had changed the plans.
"We intend to leave for Mariupol on January 15-16. It was planned that Canadian Foreign Minister Freeland would arrive there as well, but she cannot come for internal political reasons as an important government meeting is expected. She called me and supported this initiative. We also discussed other important issues," Linkevicius said.
On December 1, 2018, a chief financial officer director and daughter of the founder of Chinese telecommunications company Huawei, Meng Wanzhou, was arrested in Canada, whereas over ten citizens of Canada were detained in China.
