Vakarchuk says he will not participate in presidential election

The musician's official statement has been posted on his Facebook page.

"I have repeatedly stated that I am not interested in power as such, in the presidential post as such. I am interested in real changes in the country. To dot the i's and cross the t's, to remove all questions, I officially declare that I, Svyatoslav Vakarchuk, will not take part in the presidential election in 2019," the statement reads.

Vakarchuk added that he is well aware that "now, in jeans, I can do more for the country than putting on a tie, and I'm not going to stand aside."

According to him, he, along with his team, will work to make sure that pro-European forces win. "I will work to bring as many young professionals as possible into the government - people of the future, those for whom justice and state interests are above all," Vakarchuk said.

He also thanked everyone who trusts him and promised to justify such trust.
