Verkhovna Rada passes resolution to probe possible abuse at Ukroboronprom
A total of 229 people's deputies voted for such a decision on Thursday, an Ukrinform correspondent said.
The purpose of the resolution is the prompt holding by an interim investigative commission of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine of investigations into facts disclosed in the media about abuse at the Ukroboronprom State Concern and the involvement of officials in this abuse.
"By this resolution, we are expanding the powers of the already existing interim investigative commission to investigate corruption in the defense sector. We therefore believe that the commission should now have the authority to investigate the facts that concern the years 2018-2019. We believe that the commission should hold a public meeting and invite to it the prosecutor general, SAPO, NABU, the Defense Ministry, the Ukroboronprom State Concern, and officials involved in these facts," the co-author of the document, the head of the People's Front faction in parliament, Maksym Burbak, said.
The document instructs the interim investigative commission to conduct this investigation as soon as possible.
