Trump extends sanctions against Russia

Ukrinform
U.S. President Donald Trump has extended for one year the effect of previous executive orders through which the White House imposed sanctions against the Russian Federation starting from 2014, the beginning of Russia's armed aggression against Ukraine.

This is stated in the text of a notice on the continuation of the national emergency with respect to Ukraine, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.

"The actions and policies addressed in these Executive Orders continue to pose an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security and foreign policy of the United States," the document reads.

For this reason, the national emergency declared on March 6, 2014, as well as all sanctions and restrictions imposed on Russia in connection with its external aggression, must continue in effect beyond March 6, 2019.

"Therefore, in accordance with section 202(d) of the National Emergencies Act (50 U.S.C. 1622(d)), I am continuing for 1 year the national emergency declared in Executive Order 13660," the document reads.

It also mentions previous executive orders, including those signed by President Barack Obama in response to Russia's actions, dated March 16, March 20 and December 19, 2014, as well as September 20, 2018.
