Mingarelli: Ukraine makes significant progress in justice reform
"If you look at what has been done over the past five years in Ukraine in the field of justice, the rule of law, the enforcement of the law, the enforcement of judgments, then there is no doubt that significant progress has been already made. I and other people have already said that more reforms have been carried out in this country in 2014 - 2019 than in 1992 - 2014. That is, more things have been done over the past five years than for 22 years,” Head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine Hugues Mingarelli said at the annual Conference of Regional Councils on Justice Reform on Tuesday, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
However, he stressed that it was still much to be done in most sectors of the rule of law.
"It should not surprise anyone if the reform process is not fast and linear, but, on the contrary, is slow or chaotic, because there is a constant struggle between those, who are trying to modernize the country, and those, who are trying to preserve the situation of 1992-2014. Of course, we will stand with the reformers, especially if we are talking about the justice system reform," Mingarelli said.
He also added that "we will also spend a lot of our time, energy and resources to support you in your struggle for the justice reform."
