Zelensky addresses MPs: Inauguration should be held on May 19
A respective video address has been published on the Facebook page of Zelensky's team.
"I am addressing the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. At the next meeting you must set the date of inauguration for May 19. This demand does not come from me. This demand comes from the people of Ukraine in whose interests you swore to act," Zelensky said.
According to him, the deputies now act exclusively in their own interests, fearing the dissolution of parliament and delaying the setting of the inauguration date.
At the same time, the newly elected president criticized a number of appointments made by the current head of state in recent days. In particular, he mentioned a reshuffle in the higher command of the army, the replacement of the head of the National Council on Television and Radio Broadcasting, as well as the appointment of judges of the Supreme Court, among which, according to Zelensky, there are "lawyers of Roshen, judges of the Maidan and relatives of Serhiy Kivalov."
Zelensky also said he was dissatisfied that the rank of general had been conferred on more than 20 people, including those "responsible for the safety of arms depots and warehouses, explosions in Balakliya, Ichnia, Kalynivka and Svatove."
"The country needs the normal work of all institutions. The people do not have to wait until someone is appointed ahead of a long vacation. Think, please, not about deputy cards. Think about Ukraine. May 19. Vote," he said in his address to parliamentarians.
Five resolutions on the date of inauguration of Ukraine's President-elect Volodymyr Zelensky have already been submitted to the Verkhovna Rada. MPs propose holding the inauguration on May 19, May 20, or June 1.
