Ukraine, United States discuss security cooperation and increasing pressure on Russia
The Ukrainian Embassy in the United States reported this on its Facebook page following a meeting with United States Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Russia, Ukraine, Eurasia Laura Cooper.
"The issues of the current state and further development of security cooperation prospects between Ukraine and the United States, cooperation to ensure energy security, as well as the situation in the Azov and Black Seas were discussed. The importance of increasing pressure on Russia with a view to the speedy release of the Ukrainian sailors captured near the Kerch Strait on November 25, 2018 was noted," the embassy said in a statement.
The parties also noted the importance of strengthening the U.S. security support for Ukraine and the need to send noticeable political signals indicating that the U.S. remains committed to Ukraine against the backdrop of ongoing Russian aggression.
In turn, the U.S. side assured that it would provide the necessary support so that Ukraine had the opportunity to protect itself from external threats both on land and at sea.
