Fomenko appointed Ukraine's acting culture minister
From 2004 to 2006, Fomenko held the post of advisor to the director general of Kyiv City Council's directorate general for servicing foreign representatives.
She has worked as chief specialist since March 2007 and as head of the department for international cooperation and European integration at Kyiv City State Administration since 2008. Since 2013, Fomenko has held the post of head of the department for international cooperation of the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine. Between August and December 2014, Fomenko served as Ukraine's deputy culture minister for European integration. Since 2015, she has worked as an aide to MP Viktor Yelensky.
In April 2016, she took up the post of first deputy culture minister.
Following the formation of the government led by Prime Minister Oleksiy Honcharuk, the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Youth and Sports were reorganized into the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports. It was headed by Volodymyr Borodiansky, and Fomenko was appointed deputy minister of culture, youth and sports.
On March 4, the Verkhovna Rada approved a new Cabinet of Ministers headed by Denys Shmyhal. The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports was reorganized again. Vadym Huttsayt was appointed youth and sports minister, whereas the post of culture minister remained vacant.
