Germany has contributed EUR 1 million to the Council of Europe Action Plan for Ukraine 2018-2021, according to the German Embassy in Kyiv.

On December 7, the agreement was signed by Ambassador Rolf Mafael, Permanent Representative of Germany to the Council of Europe, and Mrs Gabriella Battaini-Dragoni, Deputy Secretary General.

Germany for the second time in a row makes such a significant contribution to the implementation of the Council of Europe Action Plan for Ukraine.

In 2019, Berlin also provided EUR 1 million in support of the Action Plan, which was the largest contribution Germany has ever made to similar CoE action plans in other countries.

As a reminder, the Council of Europe Action Plan for Ukraine 2018-2021 was approved by the Committee of Ministers on 21 February 2018 and extended on 1 July 2020 until the end of 2022. The Action Plan is a strategic programming instrument which aims, through co-operation, to accompany the country in its efforts to bring legislation, institutions and practice further into line with European standards in the areas of human rights, the rule of law and democracy and, through this, to support the country in meeting its obligations as a Council of Europe member state.
