Zelensky, Zourabichvili discuss escalating security situation in eastern Ukraine
"The two presidents discussed the escalating security situation in Donbas, emphasizing the dangerous trend towards an increase in the number of ceasefire violations and the number of killed [soldiers]," reads the report.
Zelensky thanked Georgia and personally Salome Zourabichvili for the continued support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders. Zourabichvili stressed that Ukraine and Georgia have a historical understanding and support each other in the issue of peace. The presidents emphasized the importance of dialogue and solidarity and discussed practical steps by Ukraine and Georgia in the context of further deepening relations with NATO.
"Indeed, the time has come for concrete proposals for Ukraine and Georgia to obtain a NATO MAP and a plan to join the European Union. Consolidation of efforts and solidarity are crucial today," Zelensky said.
The interlocutors exchanged views on the current security situation in the Black Sea region, in particular in the context of the temporary illegal occupation of the Crimean peninsula.
Zelensky informed the president of Georgia about the Crimean Platform initiative, the inaugural summit of which will take place in Kyiv in August 2021. He expressed hope for Zourabichvili's personal participation in this important event and the active involvement of Georgian partners in the content of the initiative.
