Kuleba, Meeks discuss response to Russian aggression
"The key topic of the conversation was the strengthening of the strategic partnership between the United States and Ukraine in the face of increasing military threats and aggressive actions by Russia," the statement said.
Kuleba noted the special role of the U.S. Congress in deepening Ukrainian-U.S. security cooperation, supporting Ukraine in the field of defense, increasing sanctions pressure on Russia, particularly with the goal of preventing the completion of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline project. Both parties noted the common views on the threats posed by this Russian geopolitical project to Europe's energy security.
Kuleba said that Ukraine highly appreciates the long-term bipartisan support of the U.S. Congress, which is important for Ukraine's effective fight against Russian aggression, democratic and economic transformations within the country.
Meeks assured Kuleba of his unwavering support for Ukraine's territorial integrity and sovereignty, the United States' readiness to continue to respond decisively to Russia's subversive actions.
Both parties agreed on the need to further develop interparliamentary cooperation between the U.S. Congress and the Verkhovna Rada.
Kuleba invited Meeks to visit Ukraine when the circumstances of the quarantine restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic allow it, and the invitation was accepted.
