Zelensky believes France, Germany slightly easing pressure on Russia
He said this at a press conference in Kyiv on Thursday, May 20, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
“We understand that we will go further in the Normandy format. I had a meeting with President Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel. I feel their support. I believe they should support us more ... I think that they have recently weakened their positions in relation to Russia," Zelensky noted.
He added that such a weakening is due to the economic situation, pressure from within France and Germany, and pressure from business regarding sanctions. "There is also economic pressure in Germany due to the sanctions policy regarding Nord Stream 2," the president added.
Zelensky stressed that resolving the issue of war and de-occupation of our territories remained his priority.
He added that online meetings of the Trilateral Contact Group are ongoing, but due to the coronavirus pandemic, the situation for the meeting of the Normandy format leaders has become more complicated, so "there is no progress here."
In addition, Zelensky noted that the TCG agreements on the opening of new crossing points near Zolote and Shchastia are important in the humanitarian dimension.
As reported, on Thursday, May 20, President Volodymyr Zelensky is holding a press conference at the State Enterprise Antonov. The previous press conference took place near the Mariinsky Palace on May 20, 2020.
