The Embassy of Germany in Ukraine calls on Russia to stop human rights abuses and release political prisoners in occupied Crimea.

"New searches and arrests of Crimean Tatars in the occupied Crimea are religious and political persecution. We call on Russia to stop human rights abuses and release prisoners. Human rights will become an important topic at Crimea Platform," the Embassy posted on Twitter, Ukrinform reports.

As reported, on August 16, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine strongly protested against the illegal judgment of the Southern Military District Court of the Russian Federation to convict Ukrainian citizens Ruslan Nagaev, Lenur Khalilov, Ruslan Mesutov, and Eldar Kantimirov, defendants in the Alushta group of Hizb ut-Tahrir case.

The Crimea Platform is a new consultative and coordination format initiated by Ukraine to step up the efficiency of international response to the occupation of Crimea, respond to growing security challenges, increase international pressure on Russia, prevent further human rights violations, protect victims of the occupation regime, and achieve the main goal: to de-occupy Crimea and restore Ukraine’s sovereignty over the peninsula.

The activity of the Crimea Platform will be officially launched at the inaugural summit in Kyiv on August 23, 2021.
