Ukraine is beginning the process of returning everything that belongs to our country, including historical and cultural values.

That’s according to President Volodymyr Zelensky who spoke at the official celebrations on the occasion of Ukraine’s Independence Day in the center of the country’s capital Kyiv, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"We will return both our people and what’s ours. These are the historical and cultural values of our state now located abroad. We will never give anyone a stone of our history again, we will not allow occupying any page of our history, annexing our writers, our scientists, and our heroes who defeated Nazism," Zelensky said.

He also stressed that today it is fair to talk about the 30th anniversary of precisely “restoration” of Ukraine's Independence, and our state is finally aware and proud of it.

"I congratulate all of us on this great and important day. Today we’re celebrating the 30th anniversary of the proclamation of Ukraine's independence, the 30th anniversary of its acquisition, and it is fairer, in my opinion, to say it’s the 30th anniversary of the restoration of Ukraine's independence. Because on August 24, 1991, Ukraine restored its statehood, and on August 24, 2021, Ukraine finally realizes this, speaks about it, and is proud of it,” Zelensky stressed.

The president noted that Ukrainian history and the state of Ukraine are both unique.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, this year, as part of the celebration of the 30th anniversary of Ukraine's Independence, festive events are taking place across the country, which kicked off on August 22 and will last until August 24. They are all united by the slogan "You are my one and only."
