Dzheppar, WHO Director-General discuss priorities of cooperation in Ukraine
In a meeting held on October 6, both parties discussed the priorities of Ukraine's cooperation with the WHO, with an emphasis on overcoming the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, access to vaccines under the COVAX vaccine-sharing scheme, reforming Ukraine's health care system, implementing the National Barrier-Free Strategy, etc., the report said.
Ghebreyesus, in turn, said that the WHO was working closely with partners in Ukraine and abroad to effectively combat the COVID-19 pandemic and strengthen the Ukrainian health care system. He drew attention to the global problem of disinformation and false information being spread in the context of immunization of the world's population against COVID-19, as well as the uneven distribution of vaccines between countries.
Dzheppar separately drew the attention of the WHO head to the lack of access to objective data on the situation in the field of health care and the epidemiological situation in the temporarily occupied territories of Donbas and Crimea. She called on the WHO to use all available means to make Russia, as an occupying power, comply with its international obligations regarding the protection of civilians.
In addition, Dzheppar thanked Ghebreyesus for his active participation in the Kyiv Summit of First Ladies and Gentlemen and in the international project "Musical gratitude to medical workers."
