Foreign Ministry checking reports about detention of Ukrainian citizen in Turkey

Ukrainian diplomats are checking reports about the detention of a Ukrainian citizen in Turkey and are looking into the details of the case, Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Oleg Nikolenko has told Ukrinform.

He was commenting on media reports about the detention in Istanbul of a group of people, including a Ukrainian national.

Nikolenko said that the Turkish side had not yet informed Ukrainian diplomatic missions in Turkey about the detention. There were no appeals from relatives either.

"On the instruction of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Consulate General of Ukraine in Istanbul has already asked Turkish law enforcement agencies to verify this information, find out the whereabouts of our citizen and the details of the case, and get permission for the consul to visit him," Nikolenko said.

Media reports said earlier that six suspects, including a Ukrainian national, had been detained in Turkey on suspicion of preparing armed attacks on Chechen dissidents.
