Ukrainian, Lithuanian presidents discuss situation on EU's border with Belarus

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and his Lithuanian counterpart Gitanas Nauseda have discussed the situation on the EU's border with Belarus and the travel of citizens in times of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Zelensky wrote this on Twitter, Ukrinform reports.

"I discussed by phone with Gitanas Nauseda the difficult situation on the EU-Belarus border. I assured him that Ukraine will adequately respond to the situation on our border," Zelensky said.

He also said that he had agreed with his Lithuanian counterpart to coordinate measures to preserve the freedom of movement of citizens of Ukraine and Lithuania during the pandemic.

Earlier, the defense ministers of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania issued a joint statement expressing serious concern about what is happening on the borders of Belarus with the EU, as well as Russia's military buildup near Ukraine.

The migration crisis on the border between Belarus and the EU has been going on since the end of June. Lithuania, Poland and Latvia accuse Belarus of deliberately creating migratory pressure on their countries and the EU as a whole, calling these actions a "hybrid attack."
