Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has thanked the U.S. House of Representatives for including an amendment to the country's National Defense Authorization Act to counter the launch of Nord Stream 2 and called on the Senate to support it.
The head of state wrote this on Twitter, Ukrinform reports.
"Blackmailing Europe over gas must be stopped forever. We're grateful to the U.S. House of Representatives for including an NDAA amendment that will stop Nord Stream 2. Asking all friends of Ukraine and the EU in the U.S. Senate to now back this amendment at the Senate level," Zelensky said.
The U.S. House of Representatives in September agreed to add legislation to the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2022 that would place sanctions on Nord Stream 2. The bill still requires approval in the Senate and President Joe Biden's signature to become law.
