Ukraine, Croatia sign declaration on European prospects
"I appreciate Zagreb's active position in support of Ukraine's European and Euro-Atlantic aspirations. It is important to sign today a joint declaration in support of Ukraine's European prospects," President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said while making a joint statement for the media with Prime Minister of Croatia Andrej Plenković, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
Croatia becomes the sixth country to demonstrate its stance on the issue, Zelensky added.
In turn, the PM of Croatia noted that Zagreb supports Kyiv's European aspirations.
"The Declaration on Croatia's support for Ukraine's European prospects signed today is something we have been doing in practice for many years. We support Ukraine's European initiatives, support the reform process in Ukraine, and believe that this is the best way to improve the quality of life of Ukrainians," Plenković said.
He also expressed hope that many other EU Member States would follow the lead.
In his speech, the Prime Minister of Croatia underscored that Ukraine was the first UN member state to recognize Croatia's independence 30 years ago. "We in Croatia greatly appreciate and respect this fact, it is an important prerequisite for the development of our relations," he stressed.
As reported, the declarations on Ukraine's European prospects were signed earlier by Poland, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, and Slovakia.
