Ukraine to develop cooperation with Japan - Shmyhal
He stated this at a meeting with the newly appointed Ambassador of Japan to Ukraine, Kuninori Matsuda, according to the Ukrainian government's website.
During the meeting, Shmyhal thanked Japan for supporting the territorial integrity of Ukraine and for participating in the inaugural summit of the Crimea Platform.
"I am convinced that Japan, as one of the world's largest investors, can also become one of the leaders in terms of foreign direct investment in Ukraine's economy," he said.
According to Shmyhal, the conclusion of a new intergovernmental Convention for the Avoidance of Double Taxation may help attract investment.
Shmyhal and Matsuda also emphasized the importance of the effective implementation of joint projects, including the reconstruction of the Bortnychi sewage treatment plant.
In June 2015, the governments of Ukraine and Japan signed a JPY 108 billion loan agreement to raise funds for the reconstruction of the Bortnychi sewage treatment plant on favorable terms from Japan's JICA.
President Volodymyr Zelensky, receiving credentials from the new Japanese Ambassador Kuninori Matsuda, said the Ukrainian side attaches special importance to the joint project with Japan to reconstruct the Bortnychi sewage treatment plant in Kyiv.
