The United States has reiterated its unwavering support for Ukraine ahead of diplomatic talks with Russia on military escalation near the Ukrainian border, according to a statement released by the U.S. Department of State.
This issue was discussed in a phone call between U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Wednesday, December 29, the statement said.
"Secretary Blinken reiterated the United States' unwavering support for Ukraine's independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity in the face of Russia’s military buildup on Ukraine's borders," the statement added.
Both parties also discussed efforts to peacefully resolve the conflict in eastern Ukraine and upcoming diplomatic engagements with Russia.
Zelensky, in turn, wrote on Twitter after talks with Blinken that they "agreed to continue consultations to reconcile positions and coordinate diplomatic efforts to achieve peace."
