European Commission consistently supports Ukraine in various formats

European Commission spokesperson Eric Mamer said this at a press briefing in Brussels on Tuesday, January 11, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.

Mamer was asked whether the European Commission intends to join in resolving the current tensions around Ukraine.

"The Commission has been involved in discussing the situation in Ukraine in many cases, as well as the state of our relations with Russia. As you know, [European Commission] President [Ursula von der Leyen] visited Ukraine in October last year. The EU High Representative has also just been there. The European Union is one of the fundamental sources of support for Ukraine during this ongoing crisis. We are helping Ukraine from many points of view - in terms of energy security, economic support, through sanctions against Russia for its actions on this territory," he said.

Mamer recalled that Europe is fully present in diplomatic contacts aimed at de-escalating security tensions around Ukraine, as most European countries are members of NATO and the OSCE, and these talks are taking place within these platforms.

"We are involved in discussing these issues in many dimensions, and we will continue to do so," he said.
