Motion tabled in Russian parliament to recognize “republics" in Donbas
This was reported by Ukrinform with reference to the Duma’s register of legislative activity.
Communists ask the parliament to recognize the sham “republics” as independent and sovereign states and to consider "the issue of expeditious negotiations" with the leaders of the so-called "republics" "to create a legal basis" that would provide for all aspects of cooperation and mutual assistance, including on security issues."
Co-authors of the draft resolution unreasonably claim that "the actions of the Ukrainian authorities can be compared to the genocide of their own people." "Recognition would create grounds for ensuring security and protecting their peoples from external threats," State Duma deputies wrote.
The appeal also asks the press secretary of the State Duma, Vyacheslav Volodin, to include the document in the draft agenda of the lower house for February 2022.
Dmitry Peskov, a spokesman for the head of state, said the Kremlin had not seen the document yet.
As reported, the number of citizens who have received Russian citizenship is constantly growing in the temporarily occupied territories of eastern Ukraine. Also in November last year, Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed Russian authorities to streamline access to the Russian market for goods produced in the self-proclaimed "republics."
Following the Kremlin's diplomatic marathon on security issues last week, a number of Russian politicians and pro-Kremlin experts have threatened to recognize the Kremlin's puppet "republics" if Russia's terms were not accepted by Western powers.
