Zelensky vows support to Britain in fixing issue of Russian oligarchs’ "dirty money"
The comment came during a joint press conference with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson following the talks in Kyiv on February 1, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
"As for the ‘dirty money’ of the oligarchs in London, the Russian oligarchs, then, to be honest, we are yet to address our own oligarchs. They also have money in certain cities. I think that, if London takes these issues seriously, we will definitely support it because we ourselves are very serious about the issue of deoligarchization," Zelensky said, answering the question of whether personal sanctions would help deter Russian aggression if they targeted ‘dirty money’ Russian oligarchs keep in London.
The head of state reminded that the Verkhovna Rada had passed a deoligarchization law, and stressed that "this is just the beginning of such a really difficult reform."
Asked if preventive sanctions could stop Russia in its track of aggression and escalation, Zelensky said: “Let's introduce them, and then we’ll see."
As Ukrinform reported earlier, the prime ministers of Poland, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom arrived in Kyiv on February 1.
President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan will also be visiting Ukraine this week.
