Ukrainian, Romanian presidents discuss security in Black Sea

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Romanian President Klaus Iohannis have discussed the security situation in the Black Sea.

According to Ukrinform, this issue was discussed during a phone call between the two leaders on February 1, the press service of the Ukrainian president reported.

The heads of state exchanged congratulations on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Ukraine and Romania, marked on February 1. Both parties also reaffirmed their mutual readiness for the further comprehensive development of bilateral cooperation.

Zelensky briefed Iohannis on the current security situation in eastern Ukraine, in the temporarily occupied Crimea and along the state border of Ukraine.

Both presidents discussed the security situation in the Black Sea and Ukraine's practical initiatives aimed at strengthening cooperation with partner countries in the region.

Zelensky and Iohannis exchanged views on the implementation by Ukraine of its European integration strategy. Zelensky emphasized the importance of providing a European perspective to Ukraine and expressed hope that Romania would support this ambitious goal.

Both presidents also discussed the implementation of joint infrastructure projects, in particular the construction of a bridge over the Tisza River.

Special attention was paid to Ukrainian-Romanian cooperation in the field of education. The leaders praised preparations for the conclusion of the Protocol on Cooperation in Education between the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and the Ministry of National Education of Romania.

In addition, both leaders reaffirmed their mutual commitment to promote the preservation of the cultural heritage of Ukraine and Romania, including through the implementation of relevant projects by both countries.

Zelensky invited Iohannis to visit Ukraine at any time convenient for him.
