Zelensky, Macron discuss stepping up peace process

As noted, the leaders also agreed on further joint steps to maintain Ukraine's stability and enhance financial and economic cooperation.

According to the Elysée Palace communiqué, the presidents discussed the ways to reduce tensions around Ukraine.

"The discussion focused on two priorities. First, the use of positive progress in the Normandy format to achieve a lasting solution in Donbas," La Tribune newspaper cites the communiqué.

Second, Zelensky and Macron pointed out the need to start talks on "the conditions of strategic balance in Europe, which should make it possible to observe the reduction of risks on the ground and ensure security on the continent."

Over the past week, Macron has already held two phone conversations with Zelensky and Putin about the de-escalation of tensions around Ukraine.
