Dzhemilev, three other Crimean Tatars receive Poland’s state awards
Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People Refat Chubarov announced this on Facebook.
The representatives of the Crimean Tatar people were awarded "for outstanding achievements in the development of Poland–Ukraine cooperation, the struggle for the rights of national minorities, and support for independence movements in Eastern and Central Europe."
Mustafa Dzhemilev, leader of the Crimean Tatar people, MP of Ukraine, was awarded the Grand Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland. Ilmi Umerov, Deputy Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People, was awarded the Commander's Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland. Shevket Kaybullayev, member of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People, editor of the Avdet newspaper, was awarded the Officer’s Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland. Sinaver Kadyrov, veteran of the Crimean Tatar national movement, Soviet-era political prisoner, was awarded the Officer’s Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland.
Chubarov thanked President of Poland Andrzej Duda for commending Mustafa Dzhemilev's, Ilmi Umerov's, Shevket Kaybullayev's and Sinaver Kadyrov's many years of human rights activity and struggle against the totalitarian regime of the USSR.
As reported, Poland nominated leader of the Crimean Tatar people Mustafa Dzhemilev for the Nobel Peace Prize 2022.
