Germany ready to pay high price in event of new Russian aggression against Ukraine - Baerbock
German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock said this at a joint press conference with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba in Kyiv on Monday, February 7, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.
"We have planned a series of tough measures against Russia, and these sanctions are unprecedented. They have been coordinated and planned with all partners. I would like to draw your attention once again to the fact that given the close ties with partners and my country, we are also ready to bear a high economic price, because it is about Ukraine's security," she said.
Baerbock noted that Berlin is trying to continue dialogue with Russia. In particular, she stressed that together with the United States and NATO, written answers have been conveyed to Russia, which made it clear that the ball is in Moscow's court.
"It is up to Moscow to defuse the situation. And the meaning of diplomacy is to continue the dialogue and be absolutely clear that there will be consequences if it really comes to further aggression against Ukraine," she said.
Baerbock added that her visit is not only a show of solidarity, but it also clearly demonstrates that Berlin will do everything to prevent further escalation.
She said that "at stake is no less than peace in Europe."
Baerbock is on her second visit to Ukraine on February 7-8 at Kuleba's invitation.
