Despite Moscow’s move to recognize self-proclaimed entities, Ukraine borders remain unchanged - MFA
That’s according to a comment, issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine following the meeting of the UN Security Council on Russia’s further violations of Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, available to Ukrinform.
"Russia's recognition of the 'independence' of the self-proclaimed ‘DPR’ and ‘LPR’ violates Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity," said UN Under-Secretary-General Rosemary DiCarlo.
Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the United Nations, Sergiy Kyslytsia, emphasized that despite Moscow's decision, Ukraine's international borders remain unchanged. He also pointed out the fact that Russia's decision could mean its unilateral withdrawal from the Minsk Agreements.
"We demand that Russia cancel the decision on recognition and return to the table of negotiations," the Permanent Representative of Ukraine called.
Members of the UN Security Council expressed support for the position of the UN Secretary General, who called Russia's decision to recognize the occupation administrations in Donetsk and Luhansk regions a disregard for the UN Charter, a gross violation of Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders.
Our partners have demonstrated unity in support of Ukraine against the background of Russia's aggressive actions. They called on Moscow to take urgent measures to de-escalate the situation and return to diplomatic dialogue in order to promote a political and diplomatic settlement of the Russian-Ukrainian armed conflict.
As Ukrinform reported earlier, at the request of Ukraine, the UN Security Council held an emergency meeting on February 21, 2022, to discuss the illegality and illegitimacy of the decision of the Russian Federation to recognize the "independence" of the so-called "DPR" and "LPR."
