Turkey considers Russia's actions on Ukraine unacceptable
This was stated by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who spoke with Haber7 during his visit to Africa, Ukrinform reports.
"We have made our message clear about the crisis. Our Foreign Ministry in its statement on the latest developments said Russia's decision to recognize the so-called Donetsk and Luhansk republics contradicts the Minsk agreements. It was stressed that this decision is a clear violation of the political integrity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Ukraine. We consider such a decision by Russia unacceptable. We reiterate our call on the parties to follow common sense and respect international law," Erdogan said.
The president of Turkey stressed his country’s desire to reduce tensions and avoid destabilization in the Black Sea.
"Since we are a Black Sea nation, we see the need to create many preventive packages. We have already taken measures, are further taking them, working, and will continue to work in this direction. We cannot ignore the responsibilities of the Black Sea nation. With this understanding, we are moving forward," said the Turkish president.
According to Erdogan, Turkey will take part in the summit with the participation of members of the UN Security Council, which will also involve Germany, as was initiated by Ukraine earlier.
"If such an offer is implemented, we will, of course, attend. I have stated this before. In my opinion, this is how it should be. This proposal by Mr. Zelensky is a positive approach. If members of the UN Security Council and other countries agree with this positive approach, we will take part in this meeting," Erdogan said.
As Ukrinform reported, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has repeatedly stated that Turkey is ready to make efforts to reduce tensions in the region, including hosting a summit at the level of leaders or negotiations at the technical level. During a visit to Kyiv on February 3, Erdogan expressed readiness to host a summit at the leadership level or talks at the technical level.
In an interview with Ukrinform, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to Turkey Vasyl Bodnar said that Turkey was "ideally fit" to act as a mediator to de-escalate, but this required political will on the part of Russia, which "is not yet visible."
