Yesterday's sanctions imposed by U.S. only “first step” – U.S. CDA Kvien
This was stated by Chargé d'Affaires of the United States in Ukraine, Kristina Kvien, who spoke to journalists in Lviv, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
"That was just a first step. We continue to coordinate with our allies and partners to take additional steps, some – very soon, in response to this unprovoked and unacceptable action of Russia," said Kvien.
The American diplomat stressed that the latest violations of international norms and laws by Vladimir Putin will be met with a strong response on the part of the United States.
"I think we are looking at a broad array of sanctions, which would not just be imposed on Donbas," she added.
She noted that Putin's actions threaten not only Ukraine but also the global order that has maintained peace and stability since World War 2, noting that the international community stands with Ukraine, united in condemning the Russian leader's vision, actions, and intentions.
As Ukrinform reported, on February 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the recognition of “LPR/DPR” puppets and signed the relevant decrees.
At the same time, he accused Kyiv of escalating the situation in the occupied areas in Donbas, saying that Russia had done everything in its power to preserve Ukraine's territorial integrity. Putin wrapped up his speech by issuing a threat to Ukraine.
U.S. President Joe Biden has earlier signed a decree blocking the assets of certain individuals and banning certain agreements in connection with Russia's efforts to undermine Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
