Kuleba responds to Putin's nuke threats: this will not break us

Russia using nuclear weapons against Ukraine would be a disaster for the whole of the world but this will not break us.

This was stated by Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba during a briefing on Sunday, February 27, Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"If the president's order to put his nuclear weapons on high alert is a direct threat of the use of these nuclear weapons against Ukraine, then I have a very simple message: it would be a catastrophe for the whole of the world, but it will not break us," he said.

At the same time, Kuleba assessed Vladimir Putin's decree on putting Russia’s "deterrence force" on a special regime of combat duty as an attempt to raise stakes and exert pressure on the Ukrainian delegation in the negotiations.

"As you have noticed, this order of president Putin came shortly after the announcement that the two delegations were ready to meet. And we see this order as an attempt to raise stakes and put additional pressure on the Ukrainian delegation, but we will not succumb to this pressure," the minister said.

Putin has issued the relevant order to the “deterrence force,” complaining about "aggressive statements" by NATO leaders that he said were targeting Russia.
