In a telephone interview with French President Emmanuel Macron, Russian President Vladimir Putin has agreed to commit to certain points, namely a halt to all strikes and attacks against civilians and places of residence and the preservation of civil infrastructure facilities.

The relevant statement was made by the Élysée Palace, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

The President of the French Republic reiterated the request of the international community to end the Russian offensive against Ukraine and reaffirmed the need to implement an immediate ceasefire.

“As discussions begin between the Russian and Ukrainian delegations, the President of the [French] Republic has asked that the following be respected on the ground: a halt to all strikes and attacks against civilians and places of residence; preservation of all civil infrastructure; securing the main roads, in particular the road south of Kiev. President Putin has confirmed his willingness to commit to these three points,” the report states.

Macron also called for respect for international humanitarian law and the protection of civilian populations and the delivery of aid, in accordance with the resolution brought by France to the United Nations Security Council.

Macron proposed to the Russian President to stay in contact in the coming days in order to prevent the situation from worsening, and Putin agreed.

A reminder that, on February 24, 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin initiated a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, starting a war.
