Zelensky, Michel discuss European Council sanctions against Russia, Ukraine's membership in EU
“Consultations with EU partners continue. Talked with European Council President. Discussed sanctions against the Russian aggressor, the need for coordinated pressure on Russia to ensure the security of civilians, support for Ukraine in our struggle and Ukraine’s membership in the EU,” the Head of State posted on Twitter.
As reported, on March 7, during a conversation with European Council President Charles Michel, President Volodymyr Zelensky stressed the need to prevent threats to nuclear facilities, shelling of civilian and critical infrastructure by Russia.
On February 24, president Putin announced the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Russian troops are shelling and destroying key infrastructure, massively hitting residential areas of Ukrainian towns and villages using artillery, multiple-launch rocket system, and ballistic missiles.
Martial law was imposed in Ukraine and general mobilization was announced.
