Norway prepares for up to 100,000 refugees from Ukraine
The relevant statement was made by Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Stoere, an Ukrinform correspondent reports, referring to Reuters.
In his words, if arrivals approach the highest of those forecasts, the nation of 5.4 million people would have to house refugees in sports arenas, warehouses and even tents.
“That's not the most probable outcome but we must have plans and be prepared because it could happen,” Stoere said.
According to the recent data, about 2,000 Ukrainian refugees have already come to Norway. On Thursday, the Government of Norway stated it would soon receive another 5,250 refugees, namely 2,500 who had previously fled to Moldova.
Norway, which shares a border with Russia, plans to boost spending this year on defense and security by 3.5 billion Norwegian crowns ($398 million) due to the Ukraine war.
