UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has said that the Russian-Ukrainian war could lead to global famine and collapse of the global food system.
The top UN official has addressed the issue via Twitter.
“The (Russian - ed.) war in Ukraine is already disrupting supply chains and causing the prices of fuel, food and transport to skyrocket,” Guterres tweeted.
According to the UN Secretary General, the world must do everything possible “to avert a hurricane of hunger and a meltdown of the global food system.”
On February 24, Russian President Putin announced the beginning of a large-scale invasion of Ukraine. Russian troops are shelling and destroying infrastructure, massively shelling residential areas of Ukrainian cities and villages using artillery, multiple rocket launchers and ballistic missiles.
