Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the United Nations, Sergiy Kyslytsya, has said that a statement made by Spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, Stefan Dujarric, that Russia was one of the founding members of the United Nations is not true.

“Ooops! What a blooper! Let it be remembered: Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic that maintained its Ministry for Foreign Affairs in 1945, nor the Russian Federation was present in San Francisco or signed Charter. If Steph Dujarric office shows a RSFSR signature in San Francisco I call it forgery. RF is not a founding member!” he wrote on Twitter, Ukrinform reports.

Kyslytsya noted that in light with the upcoming anniversary of the UN Conference in San Francisco, it is important to recall that the Russian Federation was not one of the countries that signed the UN Charter and is not a founding member of the organization.

“We hope UN Secretariat will further avoid Putin itself in an embarrassing position,” he wrote.

Earlier, Dujarric said that UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres had sent inquiries to Ukraine and Russia regarding his meetings in Kyiv with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and in Moscow with Putin.

In a statement, Dujarric, referring to Guterres, said that “both Ukraine and the Russian Federation are founding members of the United Nations and have always been strong supporters of this Organization."

Kyslytsya posted photos of signatories of the UN constituent documents - Ukraine, Belarus and the USSR.
