Shmyhal meets with Biden to discuss aid to Ukraine, sanctions against Russia
The meeting took place in Washington, D.C. on April 21, the Government portal informs.
"U.S. leadership in supplying weapons, increasing financial assistance, and strengthening sanctions against Russia is required further for Ukraine's victory in defending the independence and shared values of the democratic world. This is the only way to force the Kremlin to end the war," Shmyhal said.
The Head of Government thanked on behalf of all Ukrainians for the great support from the Administration of the President of the United States, in particular, for announcing a new $800 million package of military assistance and $500 million in direct economic assistance.
Shmyhal told Biden about the crimes committed by the occupiers in the territory of Ukraine, the numerous casualties and significant losses, and the destroyed civilian infrastructure.
"The whole world has become aware of the atrocities committed by Russian invaders in Bucha, Kramatorsk, Borodianka, Hostomel, Mariupol, and other cities of Ukraine. We appreciate your determination to call these actions genocide. We rely on joint efforts of the international community to bring the organizers and perpetrators of the crimes to justice," Shmyhal underscored.
The parties raised the issue of strengthening sanctions pressure on Russia. The Prime Minister noted that Ukraine highly appreciated the leadership of the United States in coordinating the efforts of partners to impose comprehensive sanctions to stop the aggressive policy of the Kremlin.
Shmyhal stressed that the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Ukrainians had shown that they would not surrender and that they could win. As noted, U.S. leadership is critical at this crucial moment.
